It has been about a month since the last update on the culvert project while we waited for new information.

Here is the latest status update on the project:

Box Culvert & Excavation:

• Delivery of the new concrete box culvert will begin the first week of August.
• Excavation will start next week on July 27, 2026, to prepare for its arrival.
• The contractor will also begin modifying the two existing headwalls to accommodate the new culvert.
• Terracon geotechnical engineers will be on-site to oversee the technical installation.

Timeline:

• There is no final completion date yet. We need to monitor initial progress before the contractor can provide a definitive timeline, but we will keep everyone updated. This project is weather dependent.

Utility Relocation:

• Duke Energy has installed a new pole line, and Fi Optics completed its network relocation as of Sunday, July 19. All utilities have now been successfully removed from the work area.

Sanitation & Three Mile Road:

• The sanitation district contractor is nearly finished. They are completing final restoration work and road resurfacing in disturbed areas. There should be no further full closures of Three Mile Road, though temporary delays may occur during paving. When the contractor is finished every area, they worked in should be restored to its original or better condition.  If not, either the city or sanitation district can put you in touch with the contractor.

Bentwood Hills Drive & Mud Management:

• We continue to work with Fischer Homes to keep Bentwood Hills Drive, Three Mile Road and Gibson Lane clean and clear. While mud and sediment still enter the road during storms despite Fischer’s correction attempts, we are actively working with them and their subcontractors to clear it. Fischer continues to reimburse the city for these cleanup costs.

Traffic Enforcement:

• Detour signs remain in place to reroute traffic to the new entrance. The Wilder Police Department will issue citations for any road obstructions; please report any issues directly to us, as officers cannot be stationed on the street continuously.
• Emergency Contacts: If you encounter an unauthorized road closure, please contact the Campbell County Dispatch Center at 859-292-3622 or dial 911.

Engineering and Design Updates:

• 12×14 concrete box culvert is expected to be delivered mid-July.
• City Engineers have obtained the necessary permits from the Kentucky Division of Water for the new culvert.
• Existing headwalls will require modification.
• Eaton Asphalt will begin excavation prior to delivery of the culvert.
• Terracon geotechnical engineers will be on-site to oversee the technical aspects of the installation.
• Duke Energy is currently working on a plan to temporarily relocate the underground electric that runs along Bentwood Hills Drive.

Moving Forward:

• Three Mile Road Closure at Gibson Lane caused by a contractor working for the Sanitation District should be complete in the next week permitting traffic to use Three Mile from Gibson Lane to I-275.
• Fischer Homes continues to work to keep Bentwood Hills Drive clear and clean.
• The Wilder Police Department will issue citations for any obstructions. Please notify us of any issues, as officers cannot be stationed on the street at all times.
• If you encounter an unauthorized road closure, please contact the Campbell County Dispatch Center at 859-292-3622 or dial 911.

• We are aware of mud on Three Mile Road after heavy rains and are working with Fischer to correct the underlying issue. The city and Fischer continue to clean the road and Fischer is reimbursing the city when this occurs.

Dear Bentwood Hills Residents                                                           May 20, 2026

While it may appear that no work is currently being done on the Bentwood Hills Culvert, I want to assure you that we are working daily to resolve issues, minimize inconvenience and finalize the design before construction begins.

Please find the latest updates below:

Engineering and Design

• The existing structure all 165 feet will be replaced with a concrete box culvert.
• Design work is currently being conducted by the city engineers.
• Existing headwalls will require modification, as the new culvert dimensions will not fit the current openings.
• The replacement culvert will begin manufacturing soon.
• Some utilities must be relocated before excavation can begin.
• The city has engaged Terracon to perform the geotechnical review for this project.

Moving Forward

• Please be advised that Fischer Homes and their construction material suppliers have been notified that blocking the street is prohibited. The Wilder Police Department will issue citations to any vehicles or equipment obstructing the roadway.
• If you encounter a road closure, please contact the Campbell County Dispatch Center at 859-292-3622 or dial 911.
• Additionally, City Public Works has marked a detour to manage the culvert collapse. The route directs traffic from Moock Road to Licking Pike, Johns Hill, Three Mile, and Sunrock Blvd, ending back at the new entrance to Bentwood Hills Drive. As this new connection may not yet appear on most GIS mapping software, please follow the posted detour signs for visitors and deliveries.
• The estimated time to complete the project is 90-120 days, subject to weather conditions and availability of materials.
• We are aware of the conditions of Bentwood Hills Drive between the Lakeview connections; however, we cannot schedule work in this area until the culvert is replaced.

 We appreciate everyone’s patience as the city works to restore access to Bentwood Hills Drive as quickly as possible. Additional updates will follow once the replacement project is further along.

BENTWOOD HILLS UPDATE                                                                             MAY 6, 2026

Please find the following updates regarding the ongoing work on Bentwood Hills Drive:

– Culvert Excavation: Contractors have begun excavating the culvert to restore water flow and prevent upstream flooding.

– Engineering Options: Engineers are currently evaluating replacement options, specifically comparing a pipe versus a box culvert.

– Contractor Parking: I met with Fischer representatives this morning regarding contractor parking along the detour route. Contractors have been advised to park on the building side as far off the pavement as possible. Fischer is also providing additional off-street parking for contractor use.

– Traffic Monitoring: The police department will monitor the construction area to ensure the route remains open.  Police will also be monitoring speed.

– Road Repairs: We are aware of the damaged sections of pavement on Bentwood Hills Drive, which have been marked for repair. The city and Fischer will address these once the culvert replacement is complete. Repairing these sections now would be counterproductive due to the increased detour traffic.

– Road Safety: The road damage is caused by water softening the subgrade at the curb line and is not indicative of a larger issue like sliding or undermining. The road remains safe for travel.

– Signage: AA Safety has been contacted to post detour signs to assist visitors and delivery services. Additionally, a stop sign and street name sign have been installed at the intersection of Sunrock Blvd and Bentwood Hills Drive.

– Utilities: Utilities are being relocated to clear the excavation site and may be placed on overhead wooden poles at the entrance.

– Project Timeline: Work may be intermittent while we await the delivery of necessary culvert materials.

– School Transportation: School bus transportation has been notified to drop students off on the Timberridge side of the closure to ensure they remain clear of the construction area.

We appreciate your patience as the city works to restore access to Bentwood Hills Drive as quickly as possible. Additional updates will follow once the replacement method is finalized.
